Client: Gasnor / Schedule: 2020
As a part of the ‘Grønt Skipsfartsprogram’ REINERTSEN New Energy has executed a study for Gasnor to investigate the possibility of using LOHC (Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier) as an energy carrier for hydrogen on board a bulk ship. The purpose of the overall project is to develop emission free fuel for ship use.
The study was based on using the LOHC dehydrogenation technology provided by Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies GmbH based in Erlangen, Germany.
The study defined the technical requirements for integration of a LOHC system on board a bulk ship with a typical electric power requirement of 1.0 MWe.
The scope covered:
initial risks and opportunities for implementation of these systems in a marine environment
the technical implication of installing a dehydrogenation system
alternative hydrogen purification methods for use in PEM fuel cells
estimated weight and size of the facilities
Alternatives with 2 and 3 MWe units was also discussed.
